Come have a beverage and hang out with other people interested in videoblogging and micromedia moguldom. This is open to all levels of experience and interest. These informal gatherings are always fun. Last time, we even got Rocketboomed.
DC Media Maker Jonny Goldstein headed down to the Capitol in DC to shoot a congressional hearing on the future of video. The Chairman of the Telecommunications and the Internet Subcommittee, Ed Markey, of Massachusetts. shot video of the proceedings, vlogger style, which his staff YouTubed after the hearing. Jonny promptly YouTubed the footage he shot of Markey shooting his video…whew! Rashomon style. Markey’s video is here, courtesy Carl Weaver. Jonny found out about the hearing reading Mobile Diner, Chris Parandian’s blog. Jim Long has some thoughts and related media links here.
You are invited to the next DC Media Makers meeting this coming Thursday. DC Media Makers is devoted to promoting web 2.0 media literacy and production skills. Everyone is welcome, from pros to novices. If you want to learn about video on the web, or want to share your existing knowledge, this is the group for you. DC Media Makers members have been busy over the last couple of weeks shooting video for an anti-human trafficking group, teaching activists how to videoblog, and participating in the 48 Hour Film Project.
See what can happen when you go to a DC Media Makers party? Rocketboom
picked up a clip of Andy Carvin and Jonny Goldstein testing how long it took to get a Rocketboom clip to play on his cell phone. Here is the original clip (which also features Chris Parandian), and here is the Rocketboom clip.
Technically, Andy and I aren’t actually on camera. It’s my voice and Andy’s hand.
It’s always fun to get on Rocketboom, one of the most popular and fun video podcasts on earth. See you at the next DC Media Makers meeting. And who knows, maybe on Rocketboom!
Some of you are aware that a few of us in DC have formed a team to enter this year’s 48 Film Project; this involves writing, casting, filming, and cutting a 7 minute short film in 48 hours over this coming weekend.
DC Media Makers is well represented with Jill producing it, Jonny directing, Ben editing, Scott director of photography, Gerry T. stoking the competetive fires, Melissa acting…and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Yeehaw!
Qualifying films will compete for audience-best awards and will screen at AFI’s Silver Theater, Silver Spring, next week. This is where you come in. The more we can pack the house with our friends, comrades, family members, and lovers (you know what category suits you best) the better chance we can win. But it’s not all about us—It’s gonna be a ton of fun with heaps of crazy little movies to entertain you.
